Introduce The Big Picture of the Course Objectives (Student Learning Outcomes)
By the end of any section of TH 1301 Introduction to Theology the student should be
able to:
Identify key terms in the study of the Bible, the history of Christianity, and theological
ethics.
Demonstrate the ability to use the words humans have found helpful when talking about
God, especially in the Jewish and Christian traditions.
Identify how texts, doctrines, and practices in religious traditions, especially Catholic
Christianity, transform over time.
Demonstrate knowledge of the interconnectedness of societies, cultures, and human
behavior, with reference to the development and interpretation of religious ideas.
Articulate a variety of viewpoints on challenging theological questions.
By the end of this course the student should be able to:
Critically evaluate the role and potential of human intelligence and collaboration
as distinct from artificial tools.
Identify the relevance of the historical contexts of major documents and events in
Christian history.
Be prepared for a second theology course, which will dig deeper into an area of inquiry
in the intellectual tradition of the Marianist founders of St. Mary’s University.
